How to Keep Your Cedar Porch Swing In Good Condition
With minimum care, Cedar furniture will continue to look great for many years to come.
- Natural Weathered Cedar - Cedar will not decay; over time the wood will weather to a silver-gray and the grain will become raised a bit.
- Wood Sealer - If you prefer to accent and enhance the natural beauty of cedar, you can use something such as Thompson's. This will block the pores of the wood so the grain will not become evident, but it will still naturally fade to the silver-gray color.
- Wood Stains - To preserve the color of fresh cedar, you may apply two coats of a semi-transparent stain. Re-apply every other year to freshen the finish.
- Wood Oils - You may choose to rub teak oil or linseed oil over the surface. This will give the wood a deep, rich appearance.
- Clean up spills immediately using a blotting action, not a wiping action.
- Do not drag objects across the wood surface.
- Do not place rubber or plastic items on wood - their ingredients can react adversely with the wood finish.
