More Holiday Safety Tips

  • Before placing holiday lights on your house or in trees, look up to locate any overhead power lines. It is important to keep all objects more than ten feet away.
  • Do not hide electric cords under rugs or carpets, damaged cords can cause a fire.
  • Make sure your smoke detectors have fresh batteries and that fire extinguishers are in prime working condition.
  • Dispose of your tree when needles begin to fall off in large quantities.
  • Keep your tree fresh by trimming the base.
  • Artificial Holiday Trees - If you are using a metallic or artificial tree, make sure it is flame retardant.
  • Use indoor lights inside and outdoor lights outside.
  • Only decorate trees with nonflammable decorations. Keep popcorn, tinsel and any other flammable decoration, away from the lights.
  • Never Put Wrapping Paper in a Fireplace - It can throw off dangerous sparks and produce a chemical buildup in the home that could cause an explosion.
