7 Tips on Cooking Outdoors Safely

  1. Enjoy cooking outdoors, but position the grill so that it is not used next to flammable materials to prevent accidental fires.

  2. Always keep a fire extinguisher or some type of water source close by; in the event that something does catch on fire.

  3. Many barbecues feature a nozzle type fitting on the hose which screws into the propane cylinder that has a rubber 'O' ring on the end. Check this ring every time you connect the hose and fitting to a propane cylinder. Replace the 'O' ring if it appears cracked, torn or out of round.

  4. When lighting any gas barbecue, have the match or lighter already burning with the barbecue lid open before you turn on the gas control valve. Do not have your face over the cooking area in the event of a flare-up while lighting.

  5. Always handle propane cylinders with extreme care and store upright and outdoors in a well ventilated area.

  6. Never add fire starter after you have started your barbecue to speed a slow starting fire or rekindle a dying fire.

  7. If your lava rock is soiled or has oil build up, see your PRO Hardware Distributor for replacement lava rock. At the same time, you may want to repaint your barbecue for a fresh new look, be sure to use a high temperature paint. Proven Brands offers a top of the line High Temperature Black Paint.
